Celebrate the legacy of lunar exploration and resilience with this signed 10″ x 8″ photo of Fred Haise, the Lunar Module Pilot of Apollo 13 and one of only 24 humans to have flown to the Moon. Though the mission was famously aborted due to an onboard explosion, Haise’s calm professionalism helped bring the crew safely back to Earth—earning the mission the nickname “the successful failure.”
Haise was originally slated to become the sixth person to walk on the Moon, but the explosion forced the crew to use their lunar module Aquarius as a lifeboat. Alongside Jim Lovell and Jack Swigert, Haise endured freezing conditions and a painful kidney infection during the tense return journey.

Haise also played a key role in the Space Shuttle program, commanding three Approach and Landing Tests (ALT) of the Shuttle Enterprise in 1977. Though he never flew the Shuttle into space, his test flights helped validate the orbiter’s flight characteristics and paved the way for future missions.
