Commander of the second Moon landing. Conrad and Alan Bean explored the Ocean of Storms, deployed scientific instruments, and retrieved parts of the Surveyor 3 probe. - Skylab 2 (1973)
Commander of the first crewed mission to America’s first space station. Conrad led critical in-orbit repairs to save the damaged Skylab and enable long-duration science operations.
Conrad logged over 1,179 hours in space, including four EVAs, and was awarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honor for his leadership and bravery. His humor and skill made him a favorite among astronauts and fans alike.
