Description
Frank Zappa & Moon Zappa – signed 7″ single record Valley Girl (1982)
Add a unique piece of music history to your collection with this 7″ single of Valley Girl, signed by both Frank Zappa and his daughter Moon Zappa. Released in 1982, the single paired Frank Zappa’s sharp guitar-driven new wave sound with Moon’s improvised “valley-speak” monologue. It became a genuine pop-culture moment and brought phrases like “gag me with a spoon” to a worldwide audience.
A signature from the two creators of one of the quirkiest hits of the early 1980s is rare, which gives this record real collector appeal. Whether you follow Zappa’s boundary-pushing catalogue or love the nostalgia of 1980s pop, this dual-signed single is a fun, eye-catching item that looks great on display.
Achievements
Valley Girl reached number 32 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 18 in Canada, and it remains Frank Zappa’s only US Top 40 single. It earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, and it popularised the “valley girl” stereotype across popular culture. Frank Zappa recorded more than 30 albums by 1982 and is regarded as one of the most inventive composers and guitarists in rock. Moon Zappa made her recording debut on the track at just 14 years old and is credited as co-writer.
